I am a Mexican-American licensed professional counselor (LPC) from McAllen, Texas, who is passionate about working with the Latine community. I believe we deserve to have safe spaces to heal and learn. When I’m not working I enjoy traveling, playing cozy video games, reading, crafting, thrifting, hanging out with my loved ones, as well as visiting new book shops and plant shops.

Born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley, I wanted to become a mental health therapist to offer more representation for my comunidad and create safe spaces for other Latina women to be themselves and feel understood when it comes to their mental health. Coze Mental Health Services was founded on the principle that “we deserve to heal too”, “nosotros merecemos sanar tambien”, as well as with the mission to contribute to ending the mental health stigma in our community. I received my Master’s Degree in Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and have worked in the mental health field for over 5 years. I’ve serviced the following communities within The Latine (Latino, Latinx, Mexican, Mexican-American) community in Texas: individuals and families who are undocumented, LGBTQIA+, veterans, other therapists and therapists-in-training, adolescents, and adults.

Before becoming and LPC I worked as a facilitator and casemanager, to provide mental health services for my local community. I launched Coze Mental Health Services March 2022, out of the desire to offer therapy services in a way that felt most authentic to me and the amazing clients I work with. The name “Coze Mental Health Services” came from the meaning of the word “Coze”, which means a cozy and friendly chat or platica. My Latine community is the reason I’m able to do what I am doing today and I am honored to hold space for them, in the kind of way I’d want someone to do the same for my loved ones. To create the kind of space where they can feel en casa, or at home when discussing their stories and experiences.

I have a special interest in working with Latina women and helping them navigate the mental and medical healthcare system. As someone who was diagnosed with PCOS I know first-hand how connected medical and mental health conditions are, and how overwhelming it can be to navigate. Our Latine community deserves better. We deserve prevention and to be given the tools we need to have a good quality of life now, instead of just survival. I want my clients to know that they are not alone and they will have support no matter what they encounter. I specialize in helping Latina women struggling with anxiety and depression, life transitions, trauma, and with setting healthy boundaries. My goal is to help you feel supported by utilizing a warm, modern, and culturally sensitive approach to therapy. I love creating a therapeutic environment where women can feel comfortable to share their unique story, so yes feel free to bring your tecito with you during session. Together, we will explore what you want to explore and develop solutions that work for your individual needs.

Hi! I’m Deyanira.

My Approach

Therapy does not only have to be for moments when someone’s reached crisis mode, needing diagnostic treatment, or seen as a last resort. Therapy is also for moments when you want to be preventative or simply have a space to desahogarte or talk about the things that you need to. A space to heal without fear of judgment. A space where you can also learn what your authentic voice truly sounds like as you get to know yourself and your needs. My approach to therapy is geared toward helping you feel heard and empowered to make your own decisions, through various strategies and techniques.

Integrative Approach - involves a therapist selecting models and methods from across orientations to best suit a particular client and context. Pulling from techniques such as Expressive Arts, DBT, SFT, and more.

Person-Centered Approach - involves a therapist acting as a compassionate facilitator, listening without judgment and acknowledging the client’s experience. The therapist is there to encourage and support the client with their process of self-discovery and healing by utilizing talk therapy. It is based on the belief that each of us has the power to find the best solutions for ourselves and the ability to make appropriate changes in our lives. It means that you and your therapist are a team.

Trauma-Informed Approach - involves a therapist considering the whole person, and recognizing trauma and the impacts this has on a client. What this looks like is that you will never be forced or rushed to talk about or process your traumatic experiences, and the therapist recognizes that it is not necessary to discuss this in full detail in order for the client to heal and move forward. The therapist’s main goals is to not re-traumatize a client, to establish safety, observe a client during session, and teach client appropriate grounding techniques and regulation skills.

I utilize these creative and evidence-based techniques with our culture in mind and make necessary modifications to tailor the approaches to fit you as the client.

The approaches I utilize mean I…

  • offer Teletherapy (online) services and sessions.

  • call you my client, not my patient.

  • tailor my approach to your individual story and cultural background.

  • see you as an expert in your lived experiences and view us as a team.

  • work to destigmatize therapy.

  • have a cozy office to help you feel welcome when you log on.

  • play soft, relaxing music during sessions.

  • have social media to spread mental health awareness and market myself.

  • allow my personality to shine through and invite you to show up as your authentic self as well.
